La’Kishia Harris

LA’KISHIA HARRIS is an educational program curator committed to equity and student growth. She began working in the youth development and advocacy space at the age of sixteen. La’Kisha was a founding member of Oasis Center, a non-profit organization that provides a wide range of opportunities to Nashville youth and thier families. She went on to work as a College Counselor & Grant Manager at College Connection before joining the Tennessee State Department of Education and later Metro Nashville Public School. While there, La’Kishia forged key partnerships with the National Museum of African American Music and Junior League of Nashville. La’Kishia earned a B.S. in Child Development/Family Relations and a M.S. in School Psychology from Tennessee State University. She is currently attending Trevecca Nazarene University, where she is pursuing a Doctorate of Education in leadership and professional practice.

Project

Nashville is prioritizing strategies like afterschool programs, summer enrichment, and extended learning initiatives to combat the challenge of learning loss that has been exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. To support this work, the Mayor’s Office will partner witha FUSE Executive Fellow for one year to build internal capacity and leverage public-private partnerships and resources to implement, scale, and pilot high-quality afterschool educational opportunities and early childhood education options for youth from every neighborhood in the city.
