Talia Benet
2023-2024 | City of San Leandro - City Manager's Office
Talia Benet is passionate about working with the Bay Area community and advocating for systems and policy change. Talia has worked in education and the nonprofit sector for over 16 years. She credits her mentor Bishop Dr. Charley Hames, Jr., for teaching her about servant leadership and stewardship. She is a Senior Executive that manages an Oakland Nonprofit and a Licensed Local Preacher at Beebe Memorial Cathedral, a historically African American church that has been in the Oakland community for over 90 years. Talia was partially raised in New Orleans and considers herself a “Californian with southern mannerisms.” Talia enjoys spending time with her family, mentoring youth, and researching southern Antebellum history in her spare time.
Project
The City of San Leandro is focused on building residents’ resilience to climate change through inclusive, community-driven pathways. This strategy aims to plant 5,000 trees on both public and private property and engage local community organizations to become resilience hubs. The FUSE Executive Fellow will support this effort by managing a grant to plant trees and coordinating the network of community organizations involved in resilience planning and implementation.
