New! Food Waste to Compost Hub

On April 7th, 2025, thanks to support from the Natural Resources Defense Council's (NRDC) Food Matters initiative, the City launched a pilot project to explore using a hub model to collect residential food waste for composting, instead of landfilling. For the first year, the City is piloting one site, McKinley Community Center. Currently, the about 53 households are participating, and the project has diverted 1.1 tons of material.

Community Taylor Yard Equity Strategy“Community TYES”

Acerca de Community Taylor Yard Equity Strategy “Community TYES” The Community Taylor Yard Equity Strategy (TYES) is a project of the 100 Acre Partnership at Taylor Yard in Los Angeles in partnership with the Los Angeles Regional Open Space and Affordable Housing (LA ROSAH) Collaborative. The Community TYES project aims to help the low-income communities around Taylor Yard thrive in place as park space is delivered, to avoid displacement and to amplify community benefits. The project is supported by the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Resources Legacy Fund, the Trust for Public Land, the Natural Resources Defense Council, the University of California Los Angeles and other public agencies, private philanthropy, nonprofits, and community-based organizations. TYES actions will uplift the priorities of local residents and small businesses, and topics of action may include workforce development, affordable housing, homebuyers clubs, micro and small business support, local artists and cultural institutions, and infrastructure improvements.

La Cañada Flintridge City Council Selects New Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem

At its July 15 regular meeting, the La Cañada Flintridge City Council unanimously selected Kim Bowman to serve as Mayor and Jeanne Kim Hobson as Mayor Pro Tem for the coming year. Each July, the Council designates one of its members for the roles of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem.

CITY OF NEW ORLEANS ADOPTS BUILDING ENERGY BENCHMARKING ORDINANCE TO CUT EMISSIONS AND BOOST EFFICIENCY

Today, on July 10, the New Orleans City Council passed its first Building Energy Benchmarking ordinance (Ordinance No. 35,154), which will require large buildings over 20,000 square feet to track and report their annual energy use. The Building Energy Benchmarking ordinance is a key strategy identified in the City’s Climate Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve building performance, and support a more climate-resilient New Orleans.
