In response to the more than 50 million visitors who arrive in Los Angeles each year, the city’s Department of Convention & Tourism Development (CTD) is working on a master plan for tourism. The first long-term strategic plan around tourism ever undertaken by the city, it addresses infrastructure, capacity, and the visitor experience. FUSE Executive Fellow Eric Rosen led this initiative and completed the Tourism Master Plan, which will transform Los Angeles into an innovative and modern destination, providing a world class visitor experience while augmenting the quality of life for all Angelenos.
To move the plan forward, Eric established relationships with the two firms working on the project, as well as more than 150 key stakeholders in the public and private sectors, and he negotiated contracts. While the resulting 22 recommendations will transform the city, the plan also established an all encompassing governance structure that allows for departmental accountability and freedom to implement the recommendations in its own way, fundamentally changing how the Los Angeles government thinks of, plans for, and manages tourism.
