LAX, the world’s busiest airport, is currently engaged in an $8.5 billion capital improvement plan. This seven-year project will generate about 40,000 jobs and provide substantial economic opportunities for construction-related companies and other businesses.
FUSE executive fellow Hana Rhee helped develop a strategic plan to engage the community in this improvement project and ensure that area residents have opportunities to build the skills and resources needed to compete for jobs and contracts. Hana’s work helped demonstrate the need for transparency and accountability for Los Angeles World Airport’s diversity efforts, and highlighted the need for actionable, real-time data and a database that allows for more informed decision-making. Her work also highlighted the importance of developing a centralized, streamlined, and inclusivity-focused organizational structure within the department.
