MICA L. WILLIAMS blends justice advocacy and policy research to champion vulnerable populations. Her recent work includes supporting Black and LGBTQ communities through legislative tracking and policy drafting at New Voices Pittsburgh; supporting incarcerated women’s rights at Women’s Law Project; and assisting ACLU-PA’s school-to-prison pipeline initiative. Previously, Mica conducted state and municipal legal research, provided free elder advocacy, and collaborated on several prison journalism projects with San Quentin State Prison inmates. Mica earned her B.A. in English and rhetoric from U.C. Berkeley and her J.D. in social justice from U.C. Hastings College of the Law.

Project

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police is working to reduce violent crime on the city’s Northside by implementing a pilot community-based policing unit. FUSE executive fellow Mica Williams helped evaluate the pilot and created a comprehensive strategic report for improving community-based policing efforts and expanding similar units throughout the city.
