Parker Thomas

2017-2019 | City of Fremont - Alameda County Library

Designing Innovative Education Programs for the Community

PARKER THOMAS (2017-18) draws on his extensive expertise in education and entrepreneurship to create programs and spaces that encourage creativity and learning. Prior to FUSE, he was managing partner of Mirus Labs, a design studio focused on improving learning organizations, and a co-founder of Urban Montessori Charter School in Oakland. Parker has built and sold two companies, managed the DARPA MENTOR Makerspace program (which gave high school students access to tools and a designated space to learn how to design and build), and co-invented ThinkFun’s Maker Studio, a building toy sold in bookstores and toy stores. He earned a B.S. from the College of Wooster and an MBA from the Owen Graduate School of Business at Vanderbilt.

Project

Fremont wants to build a long-term workforce pipeline through educational initiatives while becoming a national leader in maker education. FUSE executive fellow Parker Thomas helped the city with these efforts by establishing a community network to develop best learning practices and creating a public maker and innovation space. Read more
